RIYL: Surfing in Oil Spillage
Label: Rad Cult
With exception to 2016’s SeeFu Lilac, a collection of outtakes and song fragments from a never-finished full-length, we haven’t had a proper BMSR album since 2013’s Cobra Juicy.¬† 2018 will see fit that our drought is finally over.¬† Panic Blooms will be upon us in May, so make sure you stay hydrated and try not to die until then.
We all know and love Tom Fec’s uber oddball¬†artistry and non-linear aural¬†experiments¬†so much that it’s easy to forget how great of a straight-up songwriter he is.¬† If you removed the signature BMSR slime and robo-pr0n vocal treatment from¬†Mr No One, the first single off the album,¬†you’d have a pretty straightforward pop classic on your hands.¬† Singalong choruses, gorgeous twinkling synths and an endorphin-rushing¬†chord progression, this is a good indication that Panic Blooms is going to¬†lasso in¬†a lot more fans to the BMSR camp.
The gold vinyl is limited to 4000 copies, but I wouldn’t procrastinate too long.¬† We Tobaxxians are large in numbers and we take no mercy on the weak-willed.
