This is the inaugural release for label Gang Of Ducks, otherwise known as GOD. It might have been fitting, however this isn’t Shape Worship’s first release – it’s his second. On the Throughways E.P. you get an abstract mix of future garage, hip-hop beats, and straight techno. On “Throughways,” the title track, a filthy synthetic bass rumbles under the hesitant drum hits with a cacophony of synthetic arpeggios flood the song like a mist. There’s nothing orderly about it. There’s no clear repetition like there usually is in a techno song. “Basf Spiral,” the B-side, comes off with an even stronger future garage atmosphere but Shape Worship adds his own twist to it – you can even hear a bit of breakcore in this. Like Rewind Forward describes it, this record is “refreshingly unquantized and organic in structure.” Hopefully, we’ll see more from the U.K. producer in the coming months. Check out the Throughways E.P. below via the Spotify player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
