It’s been way too long since I’ve written about something involving dub techno (words I’ve written before, I know). With that said, I’m glad more and more dub techno producers are moving in to putting their material on vinyl, along with limited CD. Fabio Scalabroni’s been kicking around since 2008 and good Lord, it is weird to think that was seven years ago. I feel like a broken record at this point, but in case you’ve decided to read something I’ve written for the first time I may as well write it again: dub techno is among my favorite genres because of its dualism as something “club-ready” and as something equally ready to be used as “wall fluff” or ambient music. The idea of dub reggae being combined with techno sounds terrible on paper, but I can more than assure you that it works. “Root A” and “Root B” use the ever-so versatile dub chords to give each song a lively elasticity to them that’ll make you want to get up and just dance, or just grab a cold drink and soak it all in. It’s better that you listen to these than me attempt to describe them to you. Check out both tracks via the Bandcamp player below and see what you think of them. Cheers!
