âSLICEâ, the debut release from Best Pie Records features an eclectic mix of music from label newcomers Computer Basics and One Forth Awesome.
Side A leaves the listener little time to strap in before Computer Basics kicks off the record with the clean bass-driven house track âHarnessing a Supercomputerâ. Wasting no time, âBlurry Visionâ, the mechanical tech-house track lends a feeling of ease only to be disrupted by the destructive techno aura generated by âAt the Controls of an Unstable Craftâ. âPeelsâ, a gritty techno powerhouse, drives this side of the record home while leaving behind what can only be discerned as the sound of space dust to allude to a second part of this retro futuristic project.
Side B: One Forth Awesome (OFA) was a post-punk band from Youngstown, Ohio from 2000â2005. The group recorded one full length album and four EPs during their five-year existence, including the unreleased tracks found on SLICE. Although the band members were still in high school at the time, they toured throughout the Midwest and East Coast, playing regularly in the Northeast-Ohio and Western-Pennsylvania underground music scenes. On the bandâs final tour in 2005, OFA played the infamous CBGB music venue in New York City before its demise in 2006.
OFA opened for national touring artists such as the River City Rebels, Punchline, Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, and Glasseater, to name a few. The band members now live in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Burlington, and Brooklyn. Jesse Reed (drums) has gone on to release music with two other bands, Peels and Sharkswimmer.
SLICE - BPR001 is pressed on silver pearlescent colored vinyl. Limited to 150 hand-numbered copies. Release date: February 2020.
