If you didn’t pick up on the Black Keys reference at first (Brother was the duo’s 6th record), you’ll get it when the needle drops on Show Pony. Heavily influenced by the Son House, Jack White/White Stripes and the aforementioned Keys, Brother O’ Brother wail n’ flail this Indianapolis duo rips through these ten tracks with a fervor, barely taking a breath. Lots of growling, slamming, kicking and wall-of-sound by Chris Banta (guitar & vocals) and Warner Swopes (drums) as they demonstrate their prowess in dirty blues making. Show Pony is the band’s second full-length album, but it was preceded by a number of releases, including the picture disc/lathe cut  release of “Your Touch” earlier this year, which is the first single to be pulled from this LP. Brother O’ Brother is the third band to be released on the Colorado-based Fonoflo Records and the vinyl AND cover variations are going to be hard for collectors to choose from.

The Details

We are incredibly proud of Show Pony. Musically, it is what we always kind of wanted the band to be in the beginning. For this album it was about finding that blend of blues, soul, and psychedelic that really made it what we wanted it to be. It was also important for us that there was a clear, positive and topical message in the music. Throughout the writing process, the lyrics and content of the album really developed from our own personal experiences in those moments and the world we observed around us as well as our faith. We really were overtly focused on trying to create and album that is hopefully on par with other regional and national acts. So many songs got thrown away to accomplish this goal and we believe the quality is on full display. Huge thanks to Threshold Studios, Shine Indy, and Fonoflo Records for all helping this come to fruition.
