Before I even begin here, I need to make mention that this piece of vinyl is a COMPANION to another Basinski piece titled Cascade. That piece is only available as a CD/Digital release and can be FOUND HERE.

Now, William Basinski is certainly an artistic visionary we’ve seen a few times here on Sly, always¬†w/ the accompaniment of¬†the fine folks¬†that are¬†Temporary Residence Ltd. This piece of music follows closely to the output you would have seen from previous Basinski posts here on Sly as it continues¬†the artist’s tape-loop exploration even further. As mentioned in the details on the page listing “In The Deluge, the same loop is processed through a series of feedback loops of different lengths, creating a spiraling crescendo of overtones that eventually fades away to silence. In the denouement, a series of limpid piano loops leads to an urgent orchestral theme that builds and gradually dies.”¬†Whereas his companion piece (only available as CD/Digital),¬†Cascade, is described as such “In Cascade, a single ancient lilting piano tape loop repeats endlessly carrying one along in its tessellating current.”

Truly diligent and beautiful work Mr. Basinski.

Cascade and The Deluge are variations on the latest tape-loop and delay composition from the inimitable William Basinski. In Cascade, a single ancient lilting piano tape loop repeats endlessly carrying one along in its tessellating current. In the denouement, a series of limpid piano loops leads to an urgent orchestral theme that builds and gradually dies.

The Deluge is a limited edition, 180 gram white vinyl LP packaged in a heavyweight full-color cardboard jacket. All copies are white, there is no black vinyl variant.
