Who would have thought that it would’ve even been remotely possible that EDM, much less a mash-up of EDM songs, could be made in to ambient music? Certainly not me. Theo Burt of The Automatics Group produced and reset the phase data from EDM artists such as Eric Prydz, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk… I can’t believe I’m actually writing about something EDM-related on Sly Vinyl. In other words, much of the data was simply thrown out and what we’re left with is amazing ambient techno compositions. The results are something similar to Wolfgang Voigt’s seminal ambient project, GAS (which is, as far as I’m concerned, ahead of its time to this day). This was released back in 2011 on a limited run of CDs and it’s just now getting the vinyl treatment (if you’d like to save some money and buy the second run of CDs, click this sentence). Better late than never, as they say. Check out the first track below via the YouTube video and see what you think of it. Cheers!

The Details

Originally released in 2011 on CD, this project generated transformations of 00s pre-EDM club anthems (f.e. Eric Prydz, Deadmau5, Tiesto etc...) and turned them into something minimalistic and very atmospheric ? think Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project. The outcome is beautiful, sometimes uncanny ambient techno, but the conceptual approach really prevents it from being 'just' ambient.
