I don’t think the Benoît Pioulard or Kyle Bobby Dunn trains stop for anyone. The two have combined forces to form PERILS and from what can be heard so far, it’s feathery, aquatic and leisurely in its pacing. This has been in the making for a while, with recording apparently finishing up a couple of years ago – which happens to be the same year Pioulard came to my city the day after my birthday and I got to see him play. The lo-fi mastering amplifies the icy effects of their compositions and the overall mystique both individuals’ music tends to exude. As is usual with both artists, the mood is quite mournful on top of all those other adjectives I used. Will PERILS be something that sticks around or is this a one-off project? I want to lean toward the former, as I believe Thomas Meluch and Kyle Bobby Dunn are quite amicable. If you need to decompress, or reminisce, PERILS isn’t a bad choice for a soundtrack. Listen to the two tracks available for preview below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think. Cheers!
