RIYL: Angel Marcloid, 猫 シ Corp, 2 8 1 4

Label: Needlejuice Records

Angel Marcloid, the queen of slushwave, is arguably one of the most prolific and progressive artists within the vast world of vapor product, and her list of aliases can easily back up that claim. My personal favorite project of hers is MindSpring Memories, a warped and foggy meld of new age, ambient, muzak and electronic vaporscapes. If Michael’s existed underwater, MindSpring Memories would soundtrack the experience.

The Binary Ocean is MindSpring’s most expansive and ambitious project yet. Lush synth drones float over soft contemporary pianos, saxophones and cascading drum beats. Easy listening just got easier, my friends. Still, the album gradually begins to feel more and more eery and dizzying, like a psychedelic experience that faintly starts to feel like it’s spinning out of control. Truly trippy and worth a listen.

$48 is a lot of money, but keep in mind that you’re getting well over 2 hours of music over a set of 3 LPs. If you’re into the more sedated side of vaporwave like the aural codeine drip from 2 0 1 8 or the off-kilter ambience of Sacred Tapestry, you should definitely pick this up. No word on quantity, but I imagine you’ll have a little time to think it over. Listen to the entire album below.
