Halloween’s right around the corner, so why not some #spooky music to end the week with? Howlround’s Tales From The Black Tangle seems to stretch out time itself (a sign that you’re listening to good drone). “OH,” featuring an abandoned playground, feels like a descent in to the bowels of an abandoned, extremely dilapidated building in a bad part of town… or the bowels of hell, whichever you prefer. Look at the record’s label to see what your journey is going to resemble as you listen to Tales From The Black Tangle. You’ll find yourself drowning in the despair showcased within the album’s grooves. It’s reminiscent of F#A#∞, especially “Providence,” but this takes that album’s ghastly nature and amplifies it ten fold. What’s impressive is that no effects pedals were used in this record’s production – just reel-to-reel tape machines and recordings. Bring this to any Halloween DJ set and you’re guaranteed to have the crowd roaring. Listen to Tales From The Black Tangle below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!

The Details

All of the music on this record was created using the above recordings, three reel-to-reel tape machines and very little else. Tape loop tension maintained using a small Buddha statue, some bicycle handlebars and a pint glass full of loose change.

No additional effects or artificial reverb have been used in the making of these recordings.
