Look outside (if you’re outside reading this, congratulations!). Does it happen to be misting? Is the sky grayer than the tea I’m hoping is boiling in your kettle? Is the temperature rather frigid? Perhaps you could give Harold Budd’s Perhaps a chance to spin in this opportune weather. (If you’re in a beautiful tropical paradise such as Florida or somewhere in the Caribbean, just roll with me here.) Budd recorded this back in 2006 (which is almost ten years ago now…) at the California Institute of the Arts. Budd instills vigor and melancholy, among other emotions, in to the piano he’s on and he reminds us that no matter how much piano music exists (and how much you’ve heard), something new can be transmuted from the black and white key array. Perhaps will make you feel as sophisticated as a multi-millionaire sitting on the backporch of a three-story log cabin, looking in to a foggy private forest, sipping artisanal black Costa Rican coffee, pondering what stocks to invest and trade with the newspaper in hand; all of this while lit by a gas-powered lantern. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Listen to a few songs off of Perhaps below via the SoundCloud player and see what you think of them. Cheers!

Recorded live December 8, 2006 at a memorial event for James Tenney at California Institute of the Arts, Perhaps is Harold Budd sublimely distilled. Striking in its restraint & simplicity yet profoundly resonant in its depth & message, it is both eulogy to a departed friend and defining statement from an artist at the apotheosis of his career. Originally available only digitally (and only from SamadhiSound's website), Perhaps sees its first ever and much deserved physical release in double LP and CD formats, mastered and cut at D&M in Berlin.
