SlyVinyl Mash Up By: Burt Kohler & Joshua Saposnekoo
Cuushe‘s dream pop is the result of a perfect marriage between her naturalistic Kyoto past and current state of being in ultra modern Tokyo. Back in 2013, Cuushe (Real Name: Mayuko Hitotsuyanagi) released the lush and beautiful album Butterfly Case. An exercise in swirling dream-pop perfect for late-night chill sessions and/or headphone-wearing escapes to dreamland, it featured Cuush’s hushed vocals floating along slow building layers of colorful electronic beats and textures. Tie, the first of four tracks off her new Night Lines EP (Collab Via Cascine & flau), continues with her signature dreamy vibrations as it washes over and through your ears with its bubbling electronic textures. Tie is also suggestive that Night Lines might be geared toward a more hypnotic and romantic side of dream pop with an RnB edge. Judging from Tie we can be sure we will not be short changed on the meditative resonance we are accustomed to hearing from the majestic, tranquil and contemporary Cuushe.
Presented, per the label’s description, within the structure of “a noir storybook, unfolding to expose a haunting Japanese soundscape, complete with bad guys, funeral processions and skyscraper-sized floral arrangements,” we’re keen on seeing where the next three tracks go.

Cuushe now returns with the Night Lines EP, her fourth proper release with Cascine in collaboration of Tokyo-based label, flau. Night Lines is presented as a noir storybook, unfolding along four tracks to expose a haunting Japanese soundscape, complete with bad guys, funeral processions and skyscraper-sized floral arrangements. The lyrics were penned by Cuushe with underlying productions composed by aus. Many sounds were sourced from films, animations and field recordings, with designs of obscuring timelines and the perception of reality.
