The word “prolific” exists for people such as Will Long. Long, apparently a lone wolf in Celer now, has been around for less than ten years yet he (and his wife, Danielle Banquet-Long aka Chubby Wolf) has released over 100 collections of material. Celer was recently featured in Ghostly’s SMM:Opiate compilation released in the fall of last year and that had an unreleased song from the man! I honor anybody who attempts to buy everything this man has ever released and keep up with him. In regard to what you’ll be getting on Voyeur, think about a really dissonant version of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s soundtrack. Voyeur‘s high-pitched synthesizer chimes resonate and float along in space with an eerie sense of glacial poise. The story behind this is interesting. Will Long had been commissioned to compose this album as a score to a surrealist offshoot of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “Rear Window” – this was a few years ago. The project got canceled a week after he finished the score. Now, in 2014, it gets to see the light of day on limited vinyl. Check out a preview of two of Voyeur‘s songs below and see what you think of them. Cheers!

The Details

A few years ago I was commissioned by a film company in California to create a musical score for a film inspired by the Hitchcock 1954 film Rear Window, but with a more surrealist, two-sided viewer plot. As filming hadn't begun, I was given the screenplay and timeline, and asked to make specific music that might fit with the themes in those pages, which also included an overture, intermission, and exit music. I recorded the music at home and in a studio provided by the film company in Silverlake, California, and finished a week before the first draft deadline was to be submitted. Surprisingly, before I even delivered any of the music, I was informed that the entire project was cancelled. Several years later, the score for the film of the same title is finally seeing the light of day. It is available on vinyl in an edition of 300 copies by the label Humming Conch from Berlin, with cover art by Peter Lograsso. - Will Long 2013
