Another day, another cool ambient tape. Coming from the same label as Marconi Union’s Departures, Boliden’s Meta is described by Chemical Tapes as something with lo-fi techno aesthetics. However, as I listen to this, I’m just reminded more and more of Broken Social Scene’s Feel Good Lost (my favorite album of theirs, by far) which is often referred to as post-rock/ambient. I just can’t help but think of tracks like “Alive In 85” and “Last Place.” Meta is very nostalgic for me. It reminds me of when I was first learning about indie music ten years ago. To be young younger again… I’m more or less sold from what I’ve heard so far. For around $9 (at the moment), getting an extremely limited tape and a full album sounds like a good deal to me. Also, it’s as good a time as any to get in on the action – this is Delgado’s debut, after all. Gas also comes to mind when I listen to this, for whatever it’s worth. Listen to the album in full via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
