Awesome, but domestic shipping charges are insane.

From AAS:

"US folks will notice that the shipping fees are a bit higher than usual. This is because we've added on the additional costs we usually incur to the shipping fees. These costs include the percentage that Bandcamp and PayPal take from each online order and packaging material expenses (largely applicable to vinyl orders). As this album is almost entirely self-funded, we have to offset these costs while trying to maintain fair pricing as we've always done. You shouldn't see much of a difference, but we wanted to give you a heads up."

I understand all the costs, but why not just make the prices higher then? Why hide it in the shipping? $19 to ship 3 LPs is redonkulous.

Andy - there's no hiding here. It's just more tricky than you imagine this to be. If we make the LP more expensive, then Bandcamp takes a higher % of that. On the other hand, Bandcamp does not take a % fee from shipping. So it actually makes more sense for us and for our customers to add the fees in the shipping portion of the order. Does that make sense? PayPal takes about 5-6% from the total amount (item price + shipping fee) and Bandcamp takes 10% from physical orders (15% from digital). We have to offset these costs as we are self-funding this album, which has so far cost around $10,000.

For the domestic shipping, it's $9 to ship a standard black 2xLP. The item price is $25, so that’s a total of $34. PayPal will take about $2, and Bandcamp will take $2.5. Cost of a vinyl mailer is about $1, and media mail shipping is $3.09. The total for all these amounts is $8.59, and we are rounding up by $0.41 to $9 total.

Does that make sense?
