The Afghan Whips are out with a new album, In Spades, from Sub Pop records. Its an exciting release and their second album after the band reformed in 2014. The music has some comparisons to Foxygen’s Hang album which came out a few months again, but less melodramatic and orchestrated, still provides a soulful, seductive theme. “Demon In Profile” has a pretty catchy melody, has R&B styled with hard rock, and the music video is phenomenal, so check it out below!
The loser edition in the US hasn’t set a limit to the pressings, which is what Sub Pop usually does with their releases. They see how popular the album is, after a week or so, and then set a limit to the pressing, Per Cassidy.
The UK version does have a limit of 2000 so grab that here!
From Afghan Whigs website:
The album, led by the single “Demon In Profile,” and standouts “Oriole,” “Copernicus,” “Arabian Heights” and “Toy Automatic,” is the follow-up the band’s internationally acclaimed Do to the Beast.  In Spades, written and produced by Greg Dulli, was recorded in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Memphis and Joshua Tree.
The album is a searing and soulful rock effort that emphasizes its pop instincts while contrasting with the seductive themes found throughout.  From its evocative cover art to the troubled spirits haunting its halls, In Spades casts a spell that challenges the listener to unpack its dark metaphors and spectral imagery. “It’s a spooky record,” notes Greg Dulli, Afghan Whigs’ songwriter and frontman. “I like that it’s veiled. It’s not a concept album per se, but as I began to assemble it, I saw an arc and followed it. To me it’s about memory – in particular, how quickly life and memory can blur together.”
All customers who pre-order the LP version of In Spades will receive the album on Loser Edition 180 gram white colored vinyl, while supplies last (available until you read right here that itâs no longer in stock!).
All pre-orders will also receive any and all pre-release track downloads in advance of the album release as they are made public, which will be available from your SubPop.com account as they become available.
This 'Loser' edition LP is limited to just 2000 copies in the UK and is only available to purchase from independent retailers such as ourselves. (I think this is in the UK only, so I didn't put a limit on all vinyl, I have emailed sub pop to verify).
Please note that we will only sell 1 copy per customer/household on this LP, multiple purchases will be cancelled.
This LP is released on Friday 5th May.
