RIYL: Melvins, OM, Conan, Weed
Label: Crazysane Records
Berlin-based doom psych duo GRIN have sharpened their fangs once again for their sophomore effort Translucent Blades. An absolutely pummeling sound for a mere two humans, Sabine and Jan Oberg fuse dense shoegaze textures, grungy guitar tones and a vocal onslaught that could tear through an army of Marshall stacks like a knife through margarine. If Sodom’s Tom Angelripper replaced Buzz Osborne in The Melvins, you’d get something similar to GRIN. Their post-grunge, gazey noise makes for a mesmerizing listen, even if you’re not that into the screamy stuff. Give the leadoff track Helix a try below and see what I mean.
Crazysane Records has two variants of the new album, both limited to 150 copies. For the audio purists, there’s the tried-and-true black vinyl option. For the eye candy addicts, there’s a gorgeous clear with white blob variant ready for the taking. Smash that ‘buy’ link if you’re a believer.
