RIYL: Beachwood Sparks, Psychic Ills, Pacific Range, Moon Duo

Label: Thrill Jockey

Sea Captain of Wooden Shjips and one half of Moon Duo, Ripley Johnson’s psychedelic foundation has proved as expansive and fruitful as his lustrous Gandalf white beard. His third project, Rose City Band, began in 2019 and quickly picked up more steam than his other two acts combined, a cosmic Americana blend of early 70s country, soft motorik and acid-steeped arena jams. Whether you like to kick back with a cheap beer and some Flying Burrito Brothers, lose yourself in hazy festival grounds with fellow Deadheads or get misty-eyed when you hear the sound of a pedal steel, Rose City Band belongs in your heart and your record shelf.

Ripley’s third record, titled Earth Trip, is now up for preorder on Thrill Jockey. There are two packages that include a limited ‘wooden brown’ vinyl colorway. One package comes with rolling papers, a sticker and a super limited tote bag. Another comes with everything but the tote and will cost you $3 less. There is also a forest green variant that ships to the UK. Listen to the first single below and pick your poison after the ‘buy’ link.
