RIYL: oranges

Label: BARO Records

Originally seeing a release on Todd Ledford’s Olde English Spelling Bee back in 2008, BARO was kind enough to re-issue the long out-of-print album from Julian Lynch. Orange You Glad is an easygoing stroll through the park on a sunkissed morning. Lynch uses low fidelity to his advantage, adding to the hypnotic mood exuded by his honeyed lap steel guitar, tart and gratuitous synth notes and his voice. Orange You Glad is definitely one of the most psychedelic recordings I can recall listening to, and I won’t pretend to be hip enough to claim that I heard this eight years ago. Julian Lynch is… like Benjamin Cooper if Benjamin Cooper had a dalliance with acid. Lynch mixes all his ingredients in to a bowl, leaving the bits of pulp and chunks more or less intact. His mixing isn’t done to the point of creating one homogeneous mush, but allowing all the ingredients to retain their respective flavors. Listen to Orange You Glad below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
