RIYL: jazzy hip-hop

Label: Always Human Tapes

As far as being able to write up a hip-hop release from yours truly, it’s been a minute. I hope to come across more artists who choose to release on limited mediums, such as vinyl and cassette, but just dropping your album/mixtape through streaming websites or as a free download for the masses to get to is, admittedly, the most effective way to get your product, yourself, out there. Altrez’s production is *shocker* without any trap beats. It’s smooth, smoky, and plenty informed by jazz. Altrez’s slightly raspy voice and flow give you the impression that you should know who this is. Altrez trades in braggadocio for topics relating to poverty. A theme Altrez tackles is hunger, in the physical sense and in the social sense. He wants nourishment. He wants to be able to sprout and bloom in to a flower, as he’ll explicitly cover on the closing track. Before you ask, that is cotton on the cover. Listen to Sprout below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
