H.L. Collins’ Creating Friction is an hour-and-a-half long boxset which does what it says – creates frictions. The gears grind and the metal scrapes against the ground as it inches toward you. You hear the keys jangle and an unknown visitor makes its way in to the door. I’m listening to this with a pair of closed-reference headphones, and I actually thought someone was coming in the door… Creating Friction isn’t a pleasant experience, but one that will probably make your skin crawl and perhaps even irritate you. Your palms will start to sweat and, yeah, perhaps you’ll start imagining people are entering your house. Music is supposed to be an element, generally, that fuses with whatever you may be experiencing. However, Creating Friction makes sure you stay in your own lane as it slowly, yet assertively, passes you by – whether it be on creaking planks or the cold, hard, ground. Listen to Creating Friction below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
