RIYL: v a p o r w a v e a e s t h e t e

Label: Celldeath

There’s no genre more aware of its own meta than vaporwave. STOCKPHOTO takes the reins of its name and slams you headfirst in to the camp that comes with the territory. The cover, and the label that comes with the cassette, are chock full of stock photos. Each track, as you’ll notice, describes a stock photo scene and has fitting music to go with it. “single palm on the uninhabited island in beams of a sun” and “romantic and scenic panorama with full moon on sea to night” have this sloppy muzak creeping along. These tracks are what you’d hear in some Caribbean resort hotel lobby that hasn’t caught up with the times… or some Thai restaurant. A genre tag with this release is “officewave,” which is also quite fitting. STOCKPHOTO magnifies how eerie muzak can be and it magnifies the soullessness of stock photos. Listen to STOCKPHOTO below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
