RIYL: voguing

Another fantastic release I’m just now shamefully discovering. It’s safe to say I’ve been sleeping on SEAGRAVE, and perhaps you’ve been too. This came out late December 2015 and it’s 2017 – I’m feeling rather unhip right now. I got to this in the knick of time too, as there’s only two remaining copies of the cassette at the time of writing. The third track on the EP, “Garip,” is what you’ll find the page set to play when you first load it. “Garip” is an aqualine, psychedelic, bass-heavy rife with Middle Eastern melodies accompanied with an Arabic hymn that will have you sweating in no time. “Garip” is juxtaposed with the woozy intro to closing track “Su” which may (or may not) feature Turkish vocals – my linguistics game isn’t on point. It evolves to show periods of intense disjointed activity throughout the track, and you wrestle with how you’re supposed to take this as a whole. I’ll let you listen to the other two tracks. By the by, there’s only one cassette remaining now. Listen to the stream of Tingöçü below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
