So, it turns out¬†videogamemusic is quite the treasure trove of cassette releases that are not only very limited, but quite affordable. A I W A’s¬†In The Dim Distance is a hypnagogic stew with the JX-3P, MC-303, Delta, KP3 and the Dave Smith Evolver, probably with other secret spices not listed. For the most part, you can’t really categorize this beyond saying it’s electronic. Some¬†of¬†this tape reminds me of Samiyam, some of it reminds me of Huerco S. and some of it reminds me of cheesy, spaced-out synth compositions you’d hear in 80s educational videos about space. A common theme thus far with these¬†videogamemusic releases I’ve written up is that they feel more like compilations, and not albums – I don’t mean that as an insult. It’s nice that I can’t really predict how the album is going to proceed as it’s not constricted to a rail. Listen to¬†In The Dim Distance below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
