RIYL: Huerco S.

Label: videogamemusic

So, it turns out videogamemusic is quite the treasure trove of cassette releases that are not only very limited, but quite affordable. A I W A’s In The Dim Distance is a hypnagogic stew with the JX-3P, MC-303, Delta, KP3 and the Dave Smith Evolver, probably with other secret spices not listed. For the most part, you can’t really categorize this beyond saying it’s electronic. Some of this tape reminds me of Samiyam, some of it reminds me of Huerco S. and some of it reminds me of cheesy, spaced-out synth compositions you’d hear in 80s educational videos about space. A common theme thus far with these videogamemusic releases I’ve written up is that they feel more like compilations, and not albums – I don’t mean that as an insult. It’s nice that I can’t really predict how the album is going to proceed as it’s not constricted to a rail. Listen to In The Dim Distance below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
