RIYL: ISSHU, lo-fi electronic

2016 wants to be remembered, and for the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, Carrie Fisher passed away this morning – God rest her soul and all the other countless lives lost this year due to various unfortunate circumstances. There’s only four days left in this year, but hopefully there won’t be more craziness happening. 99LETTERS’ 12MIRRORS might be heavy on the capitals, but the music belies this by being rather subdued. There’s a soft lo-fi crackle and haze covering the hearty bass thump, crisp cymbals, and sharp arpeggiated synth stabs. As I listen to this, I can’t help but think this is post-something. It feels familiar, but it feels as if it’s treading new ground. Sometimes, it’s dub techno, sometimes it’s calling back to hard-hitting Detroit techno, and sometimes it’s lo-fi house – the flavor of the year. Whatever you want to call it, 12MIRRORS deserves a listen from you. Don’t pen in those end of the year lists just yet.  Listen to 12MIRRORS below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
