RIYL: Steve Gunn, The Black Twig Pickers

Label: Fort Evil Fruit

Today has something I didn’t think I’d run in to the virtually sinister orchard known as Fort Evil Fruit. Today also carries a genre tag I didn’t think I’d ever be using again – bluegrass. George Worrall’s Changing Tenses holds a whiskey-soaked variant of bluegrass bordering on spoken word in his lightly Irish-accented singing voice. Worrall sits you down on the porch with some cold ones and has you soak in the sunset, with nothing but rolling greens in sight. The liquor-scented wind is demarcated by the tall grass, and it whips your face like the breeze cast by your dog’s tail after it walks by you dozing off on the couch. Changing Tenses has you finding Worrall waxing existential, plucking heartily away at his acoustic guitar with minimal bells & whistles to accompany his performance. Listen to the Bandcamp stream of Changing Tenses below and see what you think of it. Cheers!
