RIYL: Windy & Carl, Billy Basinski

Label: Always Human Tapes

Smut’s katt? Smut skatt? Shaman is a cold album. It’s surely a transcendent album. It’s surely an arctic ambient album. It’s surely akin to the drip from a stalactite in a bitter smelling cave. It’s an album with dub techno habits. It’s an album that may be best listened to lying down in a dark room on your hard floor, or your bed. It’s an album that may send shivers down your spine if you just let it. It’s an album that could send you off to a land of dreams popping with color. It’s an album that will recall wintry times, whether it is or not outdoors. It’s an album that’s going to require patience and an ear that appreciates layering. It’s an album that’s going to perhaps require the listener to return with new ears every time to pick up on certain facets of each “movement.” This album is needy, as it is going to require primo headphones and/or a tremendous stereo to fully enjoy its offering. This album is many things, but it isn’t a smutty album. Listen to Shaman below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
