RIYL: The new age

Label: Magical Garage Taste

Friday’s here, and so is qualchan.’s latest effort,¬†zazen., from Canadian musical treasure trove Magical Garage Taste. On the cover, you’ll see the backs of numerous (most likely) Muslim¬†women in what appear to be burqas accompanied by pale blue and purple hues.¬†zazen., which consists of one twenty-minute track sounds like the conclusion to a harrowing journey – how apt for today. Let’s say¬†zazen. is the conclusion to your harrowing journey. The first few minutes sound like they’re taken from Michael Mann’s Thief – whose haunting soundtrack Tangerine Dream composed. After the first phase is over, it plunges you deeper in to hypnagogia with a sultry man’s vocal swoon on loop. Another few minutes passes by and you get submerged in to the third phase (think of this listening experience as a real life example of Inception) and a return to the eerie, shimmering synthesizer ebbing and flowing, with plucks of a synthetic harp… I could go on and on, but I don’t want to spoil it all for you. You like dreaming within an 80s/early 90s new age pastiche? This is for you. Listen to¬†zazen. below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
