RIYL: drone

Label: Grey Matter Productions

The stereotypical picture of a little boy that comes to your head is probably one of perpetual glee and endless curiosity – a smile adorning the face almost as if it was surgically applied like a botox injection. Grey Matter Productions, a self-proclaimed California-based DIY label, in their one sentence synopsis touts Olm’s Little Boy as an “aural representation of the artist’s childhood.” Little Boy is in short supply of that stereotypical elation I mentioned earlier. Little Boy sounds better fit to play at a funeral ceremony than, say, this child frolicking through the fields with his parents. Little Boy clocks in at just over thirty minutes, but the nature of its droning compositions make time elapse at a snail’s pace – ten minutes will feel like twenty, and so on. Little Boy is dejected, and post-apocalyptic – not optimistic, and filled to the brim with vivacity. If you like any glimmer of hope stomped out in your music, you’ve come to the right place. Listen to Little Boy below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
