RIYL: static

Label: Grey Matter Productions

When I was in elementary school (which, at this point in time, is roughly 1000 years ago), I got up at around at 5:30-6AM to start getting ready. The very first thing I’d do though, upon opening my eyes, is turn on the tube television that sat upon the dresser across from my bed and sometimes there’d be static – both in picture and sound. With the advent of plasmas/LCDs, static channels have more or less become a thing of the past. At least with any plasma/LCD I’ve owned, if a channel on the television didn’t receive anything, it’d just display a solid black or blue image – no sea of black and white specks. Self Hate utilizes static, and other forms of white noise, in the same way John Cage utilized “4’33.” Self Hate is something you flip on when you’re alone (if you play it with friends in tow, I won’t judge), to ruminate on your existential dread. Listen to Self Hate below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
