RIYL: Mixtapes, Female Musicians, Gold Bling in your Boombox
Label: Impossible Colors
Let the countdown to Record Store Day begin! Yes, the day we all love/hate is only a week away. I don’t know what I enjoy more about RSD; getting up early to pick up a handful of records I want, or listening to so many people gripe and complain about how record store day sucks. But since you’re reading this post, there’s a slight chance you don’t care about RSD (when is Cassette Store Day again?) and you’re looking to add to your tape collection instead. Which is why I’m here to give you the lowdown on this 12-song Frontwoman Fest compilation tape.
The first Frontwoman Fest was held in Chicago last year as a celebration of local acts featuring female musicians. All the bands played free and all proceeds from the event went to Girls Rock! Chicago, a charitable orginzation dedicated to fostering girls’ creative expression and self-esteem through music.
This year’s Frontwoman Fest is happening tomorrow (4/9) in Chicago, again with all proceeds from admission (and sales of this tape) going to the Girls Rock! Chicago organization. The tape is limited to 100 copies and features a pretty diverse mix of genres, once again from local Chicago musicians. Give it a listen and pick up a copy if you like what you hear.
Official 2016 Frontwoman Fest Mixtape
The official 2016 Frontwoman Fest mixtape features 12 of the acts you'll see at this year's Frontwoman Fest. The lead track is an unreleased exclusive from the inimitable Beat Drun Juel.
The mix comes on metallic gold cassettes in hand-assembled gold o-cards with art by Kriss Stress. 46 minutes.
Limited Edition of 100!
Impossible Colors is proud to be a co-sponsor of Frontwoman Fest, an all-day celebration of women in Chicago music that takes over the Burlington Bar (3425 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647) on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
For the second year running, Frontwoman Fest is a benefit for Girls Rock! Chicago, which empowers young Chicagoans through rock music at their annual summer camps. All of the bands have donated their time to support this great charity.
This limited-edition mixtape features 12 artists from this year's Frontwoman Fest. The tapes come packaged in hand-assembled o-cards with original art by Kriss Stress (also donated!). Proceeds from tape sales will also benefit Girls Rock! Chicago.
