Videogamemusic’s got plenty more tapes and, of course, they’re yours for the taking Sly readers. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you slowly, but surely, liquidate their shelves. DJ HOTEL’s HOPE is yet another alien foray in to the vast and infinite world of electronica. HOPE is rather playful in the sense that it only allots us one track, 2.5D, with these scintillating, sparse, synthesizer chirps (the tone hopeful, of course) and the rest consists of either ambient experiments and these ruminating serene, yet morose, drone tracks that dial back on the sugary sounds/thoughts associated with the word “hope.” Tracks such as “Sandcastles,” “Ghostbusters (BAT Vacancy Version)” and “Promise the Moon” are frankly not too far removed from the Boards of Canada canon with their cold, calculated and heavily filtered notes amongst sinister aural patchworked backgrounds. In a word, I’d call HOPE “minimalism.” It’s minimalism done right. Listen to HOPE below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
Physical reissue of DJHOTELs brilliant debut, originally self-released December 2013, backed with a canny BAT version.
