RIYL: The Kevin Costner Suicide Pact, The Caretaker
Label: Gertrude Tapes
My ambient streak (in a sense) continues with Charles LeReau’s, aka Das Torpedoes, The Russian Submarine. When you think of Omaha, you might think of ye olde Saddle Creek with their Bright Eyes, with their Cursive, with their Good Life, their Tilly and the Wall, and The Faint. However, get ready to have another label to associate with the Midwestern city – Gertrude Tapes. The Russian Submarine whizzes through the dark and opaque waters to only go deeper in to what already seems to be the infinite coffin that is the abyss. Das Torpedoes, or The Torpedoes, like this album don’t have much to look forward to. Their synthesis only means that they’ve been made to destroy, and maybe they take lives. There’s no hope in The Russian Submarine, but it is saturated with nihilism in the tape. Just drift along and steer clear of the explosives while doing so. Listen to the Bandcamp stream of The Russian Submarine below and see what you think of it. Cheers!
